Claire Christou

Ballet Lecturer

Claire has worked as a freelance dance teacher for 13 years, having trained at Middlesex University where she gained a BA In Dance. She has furthered her teaching qualifications with a DDE Ballet (ISTD) and is a Licentiate of the Ballet Faculty (IDTA). She teaches ballet, contemporary and PBT, and her passion is creating a space for everyone to enjoy dance

As well as teaching children, she co runs Eastbourne Dance Space, an adults only dance studio, offering classes from total beginner to professional, and many of her ex students join her there to continue their dance journey once they have left school! Having worked with dancers of many age groups and levels, Claire now runs Jewelled Bird Dance, where she draws together local dance teachers to provide workshops for her adult dancers, providing them with challenging training in a safe and nurturing environment.

As well as the adult dance sector, Claire is also part of South Coast Ballet, a performance youth dance ballet company based in Eastbourne, providing the opportunity for young dancers to be a part of a full length ballet once a year. Her passion is to break down the stereotypes around the dance and ballet world and show her students that dance can be for everyone.
