Join us for an exclusive in-college event on Sunday 18th April for a day of Hip Hop to explore how this revolution is continuing to thrive globally and how you can find your place within it.
Hip-hop is more than a music and dance genre. It is a culture that has shaped society over the past three decades and is more evident than ever in today’s entertainment industry. Led by expert lecturers and some very special guests come and find out why ICTheatre’s Hip Hop Artistry and Commercial Dance degree pathway is the most current and innovative course in the marketplace today.
Morning: Hip Hop Theatre Workshop x BirdGang LTD
Focusing on the foundations of Hip Hop dance but approaching it from a theatrical lens, during the workshop you will explore character and narrative through movement. A great opportunity to listen to Kendra talk about Birdgang and her background in Hip Hop theatre and a Q&A.
Kendra is a creative leader and movement architect. Founder and Managing Director of BirdGang Ltd, a leading Hip Hop theatre company and has worked around the world since 2005. Fluent in many genres of movement art forms and narrative, Kendra caters for Musicals, Theatre, Stage and Film. With her interest in technology, Kendra also explores ways in which we consume content and immersive experiences. Recognised not only for productions she has toured with but also music videos and shows she has choreographed; both nationally and internationally. Her mission is to tell thought-provoking stories, create vivid and striking experiences through Dance, Theatre, and Technology.
Afternoon: Introduction to Hip Hop and B-Boying
With JP Omari
Join us for a whistle-stop tour through Hip Hop Dance and B-Boying with the Brighton legend that is JP. This workshop will be dance-based and an opportunity to hear JP’s journey from dancing on TV to working with Dizzee Rascal and now the founder of Streetfunk – the South Coast’s biggest and most successful Hip Hop dance school based in Brighton.
JP Omari is a multi-award winning Hip Hop dancer, teacher, coach and choreographer who has worked hard and extensively to become the leading Hip Hop dance figure in Brighton & Hove. He has performed, taught and judged competitions around the world and is widely respected in the UK dance scene.
These workshops are perfect if you are considering joining the Hip Hop Artistry and Commercial Dance degree pathway in September 2021.
