ICTheatre Birmingham to open in 2021
Fast becoming the biggest growing movement in training for the creative industries ICTheatre announce a third Institute opening in Birmingham, the second-largest city, urban and metropolitan area in the UK.
Birmingham, as one of the United Kingdom’s major cities, is considered to be the social, cultural, financial, and commercial centre of the Midlands and is already home to a BIMM Institute and will be home to ICTheatre’s sister college Screen and Film School in 2021.
Birmingham is a dynamic creative industries hot spot and hosts some of the biggest musicals and the UK’s most spectacular pantos at The Birmingham Hippodrome – this is also the place to be inspired by the Birmingham Royal Ballet, including the celebrated annual Christmas performance of The Nutcracker.
The Birmingham Repertory Theatre has achieved national recognition and prestigious awards for the quality, excitement and innovation of its programme of drama, musicals, comedy and more. The Crescent Theatre, the New Alexandra Theatre, The Old Rep Theatre, MAC Birmingham, The Core Theatre and further afield in Stratford-upon-Avon’s world-famous Royal Shakespeare Company are local iconic venues set to burst back into life in 2021.
Birmingham has a thriving TV scene with Peaky Blinders, Hustle and Line of Duty among many others being filmed there, lots of production houses and home of course to BBC Birmingham.
We are very excited to bring the ground-breaking Hip Hop Artistry and Commercial Dance degree pathway (the only one of its kind in the UK) to Birmingham. The city is fast becoming one of the most recognisable Hip Hop scenes in Europe. As for the music scene itself – it’s both vibrant and expanding in equal measures. Some big names have outgrown their city and are now seeing more mainstream success, acts such as, MIST, Jorja Smith, Lady Leshurr & Jaykae to name a few.
Outside London, Birmingham is the UK’s most diverse city, and it is this melting pot of society that ICTheatre is determined to contribute to. In line with ICTheatre’s BLM mission statement, our outreach programmes will look to encourage student applicants from BAME backgrounds, using our Wider Participation Scheme and Fair Access Fund to make training more accessible as well as actively encourage and recruit staff members and tutors from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Communities.
ICTheatre Birmingham will offer degrees and pathways including:
