Principal Lecturer, Hip Hop Artistry and Commercial Dance

A significant figure in the Manchester Hip-Hop scene, J is known for his unique blend of Hip-Hop and Reggae. His work has received coverage in various Hip-Hop and Reggae outlets such as Riddim Magazine, Global Faction and GRM Daily.

Working alongside artists such as Lowkey, Doc Brown and Koro Fyah, and performing around the UK and even headlining infamous Manchester venues Band on The Wall and The Deaf Institute. In addition to performance and production, J also has run workshops coaching MC’s on their lyric writing, flow and delivery. He is always happy to work with any student who is a developing MC or who is someone who just wants to try something new. Also an Avid Poet, J was part of the BBC 1Xtra’s Words First Project in 2019 performing a piece entitled ‘My Antenna’ at Manchester’s Home Theatre.

Outside of his own musical endeavours, J is also an avid videographer, having a BA(Hons) In Film and Television Production. This knowledge has assisted with his role as a co-director for many of his own music videos but also as a member of a production team developing a documentary about the growth and impact of the UK Reggae scene.

This has also led to J recently collaborating with JSD of Manchester Rap group Virus Syndicate, directing a string of music videos for his new album Late Nights and Wavy Lights. J is a key lecturer on ICTheatre’s groundbreaking Hip Hop Artistry and Commercial Dance pathway and is happy to talk about Hip-Hop, Reggae, Video, Production, Business, and everything else in between.
