“It’s beautiful and ugly at the same time”

‘Erotic, anarchic and a Galician poet of the grotesque.’ Michael Billington on Ramon de Valle Inclan.(1866 – 1936)

ICTheatre presents: Divine Words, a play by Valle-Inclan, Directed by Steven Harper

March 12th, 13th & 14th 2020

The first of our 3rd year BA(Hons) training professional’s production projects.

A rollercoaster of a story full of greed, adultery, violence and finally an act of redemption. This is an amazing play.

It is full of opposing themes – the harsh reality of rural poverty set against the visually epic landscape, cruelty and cowardice alongside kindness and passion. It is simultaneously brutal and beautiful.

The characters are vivid and extraordinary- a fortune telling dog, a drunken priest, skeletal pigs, a dark hearted stranger, a toad who sings in the night, a final screaming chorus and a host of complex, passionate women.
