How to Act like a Writer: A Script Writing Workshop
With BBC Comedy Writer, Diane Messias
5th – 9th August 2019
10am – 4pm
New England Street
*£225 for the week*
This 5-day taster course will reveal how to write professional quality scripts – from choice of concept, characters and plots, to the creation of sharp, sparkling dialogue – covering stand -up, sitcom, theatre, TV and film. Since comedy is essentially drama with jokes, participants will also gain a comprehensive understanding of the nuts and bolts of writing ‘straight’ scripts.
Diane Messias has worked in comedy for over three decades, in theatre, radio, TV and film. Now predominantly a writer and script consultant, she has been a performer, a theatre (and music) director, and a BBC Comedy producer/director (One Foot In The Grave), writing for and working with many of the industry’s top household names. The breadth of her experience gives Diane a unique insight into every aspect of comedy production. Diane teaches comedy and satire writing at Goldsmiths, University of London.
