Things to do in Brighton – Summer Edition

Summer is finally upon us, and hopefully it’s planning to stick around this time – the sun is out and we’re on a break! What a dream. If you’re spending your summer in Brighton, you might have found yourself at a loss as to what to do – well have no fear, that’s what I’m here for. Want to find out some new things to do in Brighton this summer? Then keep on reading.

 

Visit the Beach

I thought it might be a good idea to start with one of the most obvious things to do in Brighton – visit the beach! When the weather’s nice, there’s nothing better than spending the day at Brighton’s seafront pretending you’re on holiday.

Not only can you sunbathe to your heart’s content, but you can also find food and ice cream places dotted along Kings Road Arches, you can act like a proper tourist and visit the Arcade and Funfair on the Pier, and in the evening you can grab a drink from one of Brighton’s many seafront bars.

Just make sure you take lots of sun cream and a swimming costume – you’re bound to need a dip in the sea to cool off.

 

Go shopping in The Lanes

Brighton is famous for its shopping areas, and chances are you’ve already visited the famous lanes at some point or other; but why not make a day of it?

Now it’s easy to get confused in Brighton (I still do sometimes) – there’s ‘The Lanes’ (found closer to the seafront) which is great for finding a nice restaurant for dinner and grabbing a rare gem in the gorgeous shops around there, and there’s ‘North Laine’, which is better suited for the coffee-loving, vintage-clothes-seeking shopper.

So start your day by buying all the pre-loved shirts your heart desires and grabbing a coffee from The Trading Post in North Laine, before heading over to The Lanes for a fancy dinner and nice drinks – go on, treat yourself! You deserve it.

 

Paint some Pottery

For a cute afternoon out with your besties, book yourselves a spot to go and paint some pottery. There’s not one, but two pottery painting venues in Brighton, and they’re both amazing for an afternoon of fun.

I’ve visited Paint Pots, a cosy little spot on Kemp Street down from the station. The owner was more than happy to let us bring in coffee from ‘Milk No Sugar’ opposite, and I had the best afternoon painting a mug and chatting away to my heart’s content.

There’s also The Painting Pottery Cafe, which does much of the same thing, in a slightly bigger venue. Such a fun and creative activity to pass a few hours – plus you get a personally designed piece of pottery at the end.

 

Try an Escape Room

If you happen to have housemates or friends as competitive as me, you’re bound to love a trip to an escape room. I can’t remember when I discovered that places existed where you could basically play The Crystal Maze in real life, but I’m so happy I did – it’s one of my favourite game shows of all time.

Ever visited the Hobgoblin pub? Did you know there are two escape rooms hidden above it? Well now you do – they have two escape rooms at the London Road venue, Bewilder Box and Judgement D.A.V.E.

Also in Brighton you can visit Pier Pressure, a specialised venue with SIX puzzle rooms. I’ve played ‘Modrophenia’ but there are also rooms such as Loot the Lanes and Puzzle Parade, so you can go again and again if you love it enough.

 

Visit The Warren at The Beach

It’s always a sad time when Brighton Fringe draws to a close for another year – but don’t be too sad, because The Warren is moving down to the beach to carry on the fun for another month!

From the 23rd of July to the 30th of August, head down to the beach venue and buy a ticket to catch a show and carry on the Fringe magic. They’ve got everything from comedy to theatre for you to enjoy, and with a gorgeous backdrop of the sea to set the mood, you’ll feel like you’re in paradise – grab tickets while you can. Explore Nature

It’s a well-known fact that putting yourself in nature is a great way to boost your mood, and walking can do all sorts of wonderful things for your brain and body.

So why not get out and about and explore the nature Brighton and its surrounding areas have to offer? Whether you want to visit one of its many parks – Pavillion Gardens, Preston Park, Hove Lawns or Stanmer Park – or head further afield to explore the downs, there’s plenty of places where you can escape the city and find some breathing space.

 

Whether you’re the kind of person who can spend the day lounging in the sun, or you need a bit more activity to keep you occupied, Brighton has everything you could ever need to have a nice day off. So make sure you’re enjoying that summer sunshine, and have the fun holidays you deserve!
