“Hello I’m Mia and I am the dance tutor at ICT Academy. My classes aim to enhance dance technique, familiarity with different styles, choreography pick up skills and confidence building. I cover a range of dance styles that change frequently throughout the term, in the hope that the pupils become as diverse as possible and perhaps find a dance that they really connect to. These main genres being musical theatre, contemporary, hip hop and commercial.
As a dancer and theatregoer myself I feel that storytelling, as well as good technique, is absolutely essential for dance. It’s what takes a piece of dance to the next level. So performance and narrative are elements that the pupils will hear a lot of in my classes.
Whether your child is at a beginner or advanced level, the class is fundamentally about trying something new and having fun.”
Charlotte is an award-winning musician, songwriter and performing artist (Exposure Music Award’s Best Overall Act & Best Rock Act 2011) (Amazing Radio’s Best Rock Act) (The David Thomas Award 2017) She has had airplay all over including BBC Intro South, BBC6 Music and has shared a stage with Hazel O’Connor (her auntie), The Subways & The Buzzcocks.
Her last single was a pop/neo-soul mix which was released via a successful crowdfunding campaign. She brings her experience in the world of popular/contemporary music into this session in a fun, encouraging way, exploring ways to aid her students in finding their own voice and liberate themselves through the power of music.
In these sessions so far students have progressed their skills in harmony work, mic technique, pitching, breathing technique, performance skill, timing and songwriting.
